This Week in 80’s History!

Time to take a look back at this week in 80’s history!

It was this week in:

1981 – The Wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana was viewed by over 700 million people!

1982 – Jerry “The King” Lawler slapped Andy Kaufman on Late Night with David Letterman. The shocking scene would be a precursor of things to come as one of the first times the lines between fiction and reality were blurred as a pro wrestling angle became mainstream media.

1983 – National Lampoon’s Vacation premiered in theaters! One of my favorite 80’s comedies, it would go on to gross $61.4 Million at the box office that year and the reason “Holiday Road” by Lindsey Buckingham finds it’s way onto every road trip playlist I make.

1986 – A Current Affair premiered in syndication and the world was introduced to Maury Povich and tv “news” changed forever.

Kiss remake cracks Billboard’s Top 20 Dance Charts!

Kiss is finding recent success with an entirely new and different fan base. A recent remake of the Kiss classic “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” has grown so popular in the club scene it has found it’s way onto the Billboard Top 20 Dance Charts!

Hairball Video of the Week

It’s that time of your week, time for the Hairball Video of the Week! This week I’m taking it back to 1980 or 89 depending on when you want to say it was released. Originally released on Whitesnake’s album “Ready an’ Willing”, it was re-recorded for their 1989 album “Slip of the Tongue.” Your Hairball Video of the Week, Whitesnake with “Fool for Your Loving”!

Iowa State Fair Record Breaking Fun

Iowa State Fair Attempts to Break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® Title for Largest Cornhole Tournament.

By definition, it’s a lawn game in which players toss beanbags toward a slanted board with the goal of landing the bag through the hole in the center of the board. Whether you call it bags, backyard toss, bagg-o, Chuck-O, bean bags or cornhole, the Iowa State Fair is trying to break a record for the largest cornhole tournament on Saturday, August 20.

The current record stands at just 444 participants set by an organization in San Diego, California in June of 2019. The Iowa State Fair has been close to the record in the past.

In order to break the current record in 2022, the Iowa State Fair will need more than 444 participants. Registration information for teams can be found at www.iowastatefair.org. Doubles are required to pre-register this year on the Scoreholio App so that an official count can be logged by Guinness World Records. No day of registrations will be accepted. All participants will receive a free commemorative t-shirt.

The bags tournament is sponsored by Floor & Décor. Find more details at iowastatefair.org.
