IOWA‐MADE IGNITION INTERLOCK COMPANY PARTNERS WITH LOCAL DRIVING SERVICE FOR
THIRD YEAR RUNNING TO HELP PREVENT DRUNK DRIVING THIS ST. PATRICK’S DAY

Des Moines, Iowa – For the third year in a row, a public safety effort by Intoxalock will help 20 drivers
who have been drinking, arrive home safely this St. Patrick’s Day. On Sunday, March 17th, 2013 any
individual in need of a safe ride can contact Drivers On Call (DOC) by calling (515) 778‐9007 to request
a pick‐up in the Des Moines metro area. The first 20 callers to mention “Intoxalock” will have their ride
costs covered by Intoxalock. After the 20 free rides are exhausted, DOC will still be available for normal
business at $30 per ride to the metro area with additional charges outside the metro.
Drivers On Call was established by Doug Podhajsky in 2010 and provides a driving service in which a
DOC driver meets a drinking patron at their vehicle and drives them in their OWN car safely to their
requested destination where another DOC employee is waiting to pick up the driver. This service
provides the patron the comfort of knowing that their car will be with them in the morning and that
they have another option to get home safely.
“At Intoxalock, we are extremely proud to partner with Drivers On Call for a third year,” said Dave
Arringdale, CEO of Intoxalock. “This promotion adds to the high level of satisfaction that comes from
knowing that we are helping with such a critical public safety issue. Fighting drunk driving through the
Intoxalock application and our various technologies is important not only for the public at large, but
also for the offender who can get back on the road safely and legally.”
The Intoxalock is what’s typically called an ignition interlock device or car breathalyzer. It’s a discreet,
hand‐held alcohol sensor that is installed in a vehicle and tests a driver's breath to determine blood
alcohol content. The device will prohibit the vehicle from starting if the driver fails the test. Intoxalock
is primarily used by people who are legally required to have an ignition interlock device in their vehicle
because of a drunken driving violation. However, more and more people are installing an ignition
interlock to protect themselves, their families, or their companies.
In 2010, Iowa approved an administrative rule change that allows interlock devices to be serviced, or
recalibrated, every 180 days instead of the standard 30 to 60 days. Providers must prove their devices
are accurate for this longer period of time through testing by independent labs and the Department of
Criminal Investigation. Intoxalock was the first to offer this feature and be state approved in July, 2010
and as of March 1, 2013 is still the only device manufacturer that can meet these stringent testing
requirements.
About Intoxalock: Des Moines based, Consumer Safety Technology (CST) manufactures the Intoxalock and
provides ignition interlock service to more nearly 40 states nationwide from their centralized location. In
conjunction with researchers at Iowa State University, CST developed the Intoxalock using alcohol‐specific fuel
cell technology in 1992. CST was the first company to use this cutting‐edge technology, which is now an ignition
interlock industry standard. In 2010, CST added advanced features within the Intoxalock eLERT™ products and
today, continues to actively work to advance the IID industry with technology that suits the needs of various
federal and state requirements.
