My Visit To The Villisca Axe Murder House

The Villisca Axe Murders occurred between the evening of June 9, 1912, and the early morning of June 10, 1912, in the town of Villisca in southwestern Iowa. The six members of the Moore family and two house guests were found bludgeoned in the Moore residence. All eight victims, including six children, had severe head wounds from an axe. A lengthy investigation yielded several suspects, one of whom was tried twice. The first trial ended in a hung jury and the second ended in an acquittal. The crime remains unsolved.

You can visit the home for yourself (day and overnight tours available). I stopped by last weekend with the family and did a small paranormal investigation. Here’s some photos and videos of what we captured.

95 KGGO Welcomes Marci Wiser To Des Moines

If radio were the Military, Marci would have a shirt full of metal. She’s done a tour of duty that stretches from Los Angeles to Manhattan, D.C. to Seattle, Salt Lake to Phoenix, and a bunch of other points in-between. She grew up in the Midwest, terrorizing neighborhoods and school kids with her big personality and loud music. While in college and studying forensic science and the real origins of Christmas, Marci had a part time gig at the college radio station and she ended up being discovered by the program director of one of the big city stations. The rest, as they say, is history.

Dave Grohl is Marci’s Hall Pass, she’s addicted to “I Love Lucy” and “Law & Order” late-night reruns, she only drinks Smart Water, she enjoys a cold Coors and bottles of red wine at a time and and suffers from misophonia, which means certain sounds and words make her skin crawl. Note of caution: When around Marci, don’t blow your nose, sneeze, or utter the words snack, moist or ribbon. You’ve been warned.

When she’s not hanging out on the radio, she is barricaded behind 15 foot castle walls that are protected by alligators and millions of killer bees. Listen for Marci weekdays 9-2:00 PM right here on 95 KGGO.

Joan Jett Releases New Single and Documentary

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts push forward with their new single, “Fresh Start.” It is the blazing new companion to the upcoming documentary Bad Reputation, which takes you on a wild ride through Jett’s life and career. Her unapologetic and fierce sound is ever present on “Fresh Start” with blistering guitars and her signature snarl.

NPR: “Fresh Start” continues in that vein, setting epically crunching guitar riffs against a larger message about learning from your mistakes, starting over and seizing the opportunities in front of you.” (Blackheart Records Press Release)
