Virtual Kettle Fundraiser for Salvation Army

The season of giving is here, and there’s nothing like the warm feeling you get as you donate to a Salvation Army Red Kettle. It’s a perfect season to remember those less fortunate. The need has always been there. This year, it just happens to be greater. If you need help, please reach out. If you can give help, please reach within. Let’s rescue Christmas for the most vulnerable. Whether you give in person at one of the Kettles throughout Des Moines, or on-line at DSMKettle.com, give what you can, and help do the most good.

Want to donate in another way? Donate your time! Sign up to be a bell ringer for The Salvation Army at RegisterToRing.com.

What is Project Shine?

Today on the show, B-sox was joined by Brian Philips with Cumulus Media to talk about Project Shine. Check out the interview for all the details, plus you can follow the links below for more information!

CUMULUS MEDIA and VolunteerMatch bring you PROJECT SHINE. Today, you have the power to shine. To help our country find its way out of the darkness. Your good deeds can light up the sky and shine light into the world.

In the wake of COVID-19, America’s non-profits need our support more than ever. Sure, it feels good to donate money, but when you VOLUNTEER, you truly give of yourself, and the world and your soul are richer for it.

PROJECT SHINE believes that everyone should have the chance to make a difference. That’s why we make it easy for good people and good causes to connect.  You’ll be amazed at the world of volunteer opportunities that exist in your area through VolunteerMatch – the largest online volunteer engagement network.

There are currently 3.2 million volunteers needed by the non-profits on VolunteerMatch. Over 700,000 of those openings are for virtual volunteers, and many postings are for safely-distanced activities. Find your dream volunteer opportunity right now at VolunteerMatch.org.

Give what matters most—your time, effort, and love—as a volunteer in your community. Let the light shine down, and let your light shine brighter too!

*If you know of a non-profit that needs help recruiting volunteers, we can help with that too! Find out more HERE.

Give Central Iowa a Hunger Free Holiday Season!

As we all know, this year has been especially difficult. What you may not know is food insecurity has doubled since COVID and tripled for households with kids in Iowa. 4 in 10 Black and Hispanic families have faced hunger during the pandemic. We want to do our part to help feed every central Iowa family in need, which means our goal is to get at least 200,000 meals!

Just $1 can provide up to 4 meals through Food Bank of Iowa.

Help us reach our goal to provide more meals this holiday season by making a donation to our Hunger Free Holidays team.

In the past year at Food Bank of Iowa, they have:

  • Distributed 19,063,392 pounds of food
  • Provided 15,886,160 meals
  • Served 1,177,927 people in 468,068 households across Iowa
  • Had 9,220 volunteers donate 31,790 hours of their time
