This Week in 80’s HistoryPosted on October 1, 2022 It’s that time of your week! Time to take a look back at this week in 80’s history! It was this week in: 1982 – Cheers Premiered on NBC. Despite low season 1 ratings, the show would become a massive hit, running for 11 seasons and winning 4 Emmy awards. 1982 – The first Compact Discs would go on sale in Japan. Changing the way we listened to music for a while but it seams in the day and age of streaming we have come full circle, as for the past several years vinyl sales have actually eclipsed CD sales. 1982 – “Jack & Diane” by John Cougar Mellencamp became the #1 Song in America and would hold onto that spot for the entire month of October. 1987 – “Mony Mony” by Billy Idol was released! The song would be an instant hit with fans and would find its way to the top of the Billboard Charts, hitting the #1 spot in November of 87.
